Once again we found ourselves at another border after a couple hours of riding. It was already midday, but we only had a short distance to cover, heading to the small town of Leon, where we'd meet up with some of Nate's friends from DC who happened to be renting a house on the beach. Can we crash there for a couple nights? Perfect! We have been blessed this whole trip, finding places to stay with friends, friends of friends and new people who have become friends. It's hard not to chuckle to your self and say, wow, here we are again in another incredible place with wonderful people.
While Nate and I checked the map on the side of the road, our friends we were trying to meet up with actually spotted us and pulled over! What a great stroke of luck. We laughed and said, of course they'd find us when we needed them to, that's how it always works! Twenty minutes down the road we found ourselves pulling into a great little compound right on the beach. Secure parking, fresh showers, a nice kitchen, great people and a beach for our back yard!? Sounds perfect, we are going to be just fine. So fine in fact that we decided to stay two days. Nate and the crew took a day trip to the nearby volcano while I held down the fort, relaxing and checking some things off my To Do list.
We all enjoyed some great meals together and told stories of our travels. It was so nice to hang with Americans and speak normal English. After three months of broken Spanish and English it's amazing how nice it feels to just speak normally and have a great conversation.
We were excited to get to Lake Nicaragua as everyone said it was beautiful, so we hit the road early and enjoyed the sunny drive south. After checking out a few hotels we settled on a nice little place about a block from the lake. Thirty bucks, secure parking for the bikes and a fan in our room sold the deal. We explored the neighborhood and found a local place right on the beach to grab some dinner. As the sun set on the lake we enjoyed a beer and soaked in the breeze, reflecting on the day.
Next stop: Costa Rica!
