Comida Deliciosa!

 Comida Deliciosa!

The food on our trip so far has been delicious. As you can imagine every dollar counts so we do our best to stretch our money and find meals for only a few dollars when ever possible. Traveling across the states I had a few memorable meals, including some very authentic and delicious Indian food, which to our surprise, was at a small truck stop in New Mexico! We pulled off the highway to take a break and noticed a small Indian buffet restaurant tucked away on the end of this run down looking building. Upon further investigation we discovered it was entirely run by Indians, looked and smelled delicious and was a great deal. Sold on our lunch spot we loaded up our plates and enjoy some of the best Indian food I've ever had.

Mexico was full of delicious Tacos, which after eating for three weeks straight did give me my fill for a while, however each meal was slightly different and always full of flavor. Our first night in Mexico our host family brought us to a county fair, which had some delicious tacos. Tender cuts of pork (i forget the exact name at the moment) and all the fresh toppings. Add some salsa verde on top and you got yourself a great meal. As we traveled south, and eventually to the coast, the seafood became more common and I found myself eating a lot of shrimp tacos and fish tacos as well. Some were deep fried, giving the taco experience a completely new texture. Most were served the traditional way, two small corn tortillas stacked on top of each other with your choice of meat and toppings. Lime was always in abundance adding that perfect fresh acidic tastes to complement all the spicy flavors. From tacos to carne asada, burritos and pollo, Mexico did not disappoint.

Guatemala was a flash in my memory of this trip as we were in the country for less than 24 hours. By that point we were both in the mood for some comfort food and settled for a nice greasy Little Caesar's Pizza. Yes, it was delicious.

El Salvador  has been a wonderful mix of home cooked meals, fast food classics like "Pollo Compero" and "Biggest" and local El Tunco deals like delicious Papusas and "Desayuno Típico", which is scrambled eggs, fried plantains, beans and two pieces of bread with creama for $3. Now that's what I like to call a good deal. Exploring El Tunco's food offerings has been fun and I've started to find my favorite spots where I return to. For a nice afternoon snack or even dinner I like to get two Papusas con queso. Add some hot sauce and salad (pickled cabbage) on top and they are hard to beat for a buck each.

While staying in San Salvador with our wonderful host and friend Ligia, we decided to take a day trip out to the coast and visit a small restaurant that was built on stilts in an estuary. The place was only accessible by boat and we had to call ahead to make sure the woman who was to cook our meal was there. We arrived at low tide to a row of stilted thatched roof huts, only one of which was open that day. The young woman who was our cook and server, presented us with three large whole fresh fish and we chose which one we wanted right at the table. She prepared a wonderful shrimp ceviche and readied the wood stove for cooking. As we relaxed in hammocks and drank cold beers the tide came in swallowing up the sand bar surrounding us completely by water. We ate our delicious fried fish and watched the sun reflect off the water. It was the most relaxing meal I've had in a very long time.

We have also been treated to a few incredible meals, at wonderful restaurants around San Salvador and El Tunco. Although we both can appreciate a wonderful meal, places like these are not on our radar because for the price of one dish we can eat for a day, and when you're traveling by motorcycle through out the world every dollar saved is a new town or city seen down the road.

It has been wonderful settling into El Tunco and finding a rhythm to my meals. Every day we discover new deals, like chocolate covered bananas with nuts on top for .30 cents.  I mean why should I not eat two of those every day?!
