Island Living

Island Living

With some of the best scuba diving in the world, amazing Caribbean water and relaxing island life, Roatan was a must see place on our journey. After a bit of research we put out the call on facebook and with in hours a college friend of our was putting us in contact with someone on the island. A free place to stay with meals included? Wow, yes, we have to get out there. Next step, figure out how to gt the bikes to the island. Everyone told us the ferry did not take cars, only people, but after a few email exchanges and Nate working his magic, we had approval to load our bikes on the ferry and take them to the island! Perfect!

We arrived a couple hours early at the port to buy our tickets and position our bikes for loading. After some breakfast at the local restaurant we walked back over to the dock and to our surprise it was packed full of people, all heading to Roatan for the weekend. With the help of the dock crew we got the bikes loaded onto the ferry and before we knew it the boat was on it's way, heading out into the Caribbean towards the island! It was the fastest ferry I've ever been on and after about two hours we were docking on Roatan. On the ride we met a local who told us the way to our destination and other fun places to check out. We also saw some dolphins along side the boat which was a fun treat. Wow, we're on a ferry in the Caribbean going to an island! Amazing.

After about 25 minutes of riding we had made it to the east end where we'd be staying. It was a beautiful day and the views of the reef were just stunning. The excitement grew as we approached, knowing we'd be learning how to scuba dive in those waters soon. Our hosts showed us to our room and before too long we were swimming in the turquoise waters, feeling pretty good about our lives. We explored the property and headed to the only restaurant there which we discovered had some delicious food.

Marble Hill Farms, where we'd call home for about a week, sits on top of a little hill looking out over the Caribbean. Down the road to the water there are a few cabins in the trees and at the end of the road there is a long dock that goes out to a boat house set up for scuba diving as well as swimming and kayaking. Up past the cabins is the main house, and past that is the restaurant, built with an indoor outdoor style with the second level over looking the trees down to the water. It's a beautiful place and I'm very much looking forward to my time here.

Tomorrow we go for our first dive. Let the underwater adventure begin!
